Rebecca Padgett TEP, FCILEx, LLB (Hons), ILFM (Dip) is a Director of Thorne Segar Ltd and head of the Private Client department
Rebecca is not the stereotypical lawyer and businesswoman. She is an expert in the field of Wills, Estate administration and Trusts but with a down-to-earth, compassionate approach.
Probate and Estate Administration: Assistance and advice at a time of extreme stress and upset – Rebecca will take care of your loved one’s estate, removing the burden from you.
Services are tailored to you. Rebecca and her team can do as much or as little as you want, she can even assist you in making a plan to administer the estate yourself.
Strained relationships between Beneficiaries and Executors can be challenging. Rebecca’s long experience and expertise can often salvage an otherwise very difficult situation.
Wills are easy to get wrong, causing emotional pain and financial loss. Many lawyers prepare a will based solely upon their client’s instructions. Rebecca, however, considers the far reaching consequences of every clause with her strategic approach to will drafting.
Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax can often be mitigated or avoided altogether with careful up-front planning.
Trust Deeds of Appointment and Resignation and Retirement of Trustees needs detailed understanding of a Trust’s operation and legal obligations of Trustees.
Life Interest Trusts: Rebecca drafts trusts where a Beneficiary receives Trust Income but the capital is protected for other beneficiaries – often used in Wills.
Disabled Person’s Trusts: Administering Trusts and supporting beneficiaries in their lives – the two go hand-in-hand.
Investment Management: Provided in partnership with renowned London Stockbrokers and Wealth Managers Brewin Dolphin – bringing high end City provision to Minehead.
I started working in Law at 18 as a legal secretary at Thorne & Thorne. I decided to study law at University in Bristol, funding my studies by working evenings as a legal secretary at Burges Salmon.
I had always wanted to run my own business and experimented with a few things before returning to Thorne Segar to assist the indomitable Lawrence Fine. From then on I excelled. I built on my Law degree by training to be a Legal Executive, taking my Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners exams and achieving the Institute of Financial and Legal Cashiers Diploma.
Over the years I have amassed huge experience in Private Client work. I have become the head of the Private Client department and a Shareholder and Director of Thorne Segar Ltd.
In my spare time I enjoy running, mountain biking and yoga. I enjoy reading – exhaustively – I have books everywhere, I relish developing my skills and knowledge.
Most of all I love spending time with my family – it’s the most important thing in life. I look forward to helping you and your loved ones.
